How 0871 Number works

In the simplest case, the 0871 (Non Geographic Number or NGN) is translated into a regular UK geographic number (UK telephone numbers starting with 01 or 02) these are generally associated with a telephone line (landline number). This number is then routed by the telephone exchange in the normal way so when a caller dials the 0871 Number the regular number rings. This is called Standard Routing.

An alternative is not to translate the 0871 Number to another number directly but to route the caller to phone call services platform which provides features including routing by time of day, location of caller, day of week, capacity, etc. to be employed. For example:

• time of day might be used if the UK call centre is closed, but another geographic call centre (in India for example) is open. This would prevent people having to ring back when the UK call centre was open.
• or the call might be routed to a group of home workers using a Group Divert service.
• or the call could be routed to a mobile support engineer directly.

This is called Intelligent routing.

Combining your 0871 telephone number with a virtual switchboard and intelligent routing will make your clients actively want to phone you.  Instead of finishing up with a press button switchboard or explaining their problem to two or three people, their call can be automatically routed to the person or department they normally deal with.  In a win-win situation, not only will you be receiving 3ppm for every call and saving administration costs, your clients will be happy too.

You simply decide which number you would like redirected to your existing landline; you receive a percentage of the fee charged for each call received.

Intelligent Routing 0871 Numbers Services

If you choose to select any other service such as virtual switchboard (see sample diagram below), answerphone, fax to email, call diversion, company information line, group divert, call forward and call transfer.

Here the caller dials the 0871 number, the call is routed to the Callagenix platform that runs your service and handles the call in the manner you require. This may involve a simple announcement or divert to a mobile or UK lanldine, or it may involve call options and call center hunt groups.
